Single motherhood is a prevalent problem in Sierra Leone. Many households lose fathers from disease, poverty, disasters, and cultural expectations that are disadvantageous for women. A 2013 report by the Better Care Network reveals that 17% of children live with their biological mother in a single-parent household.
Widows and single mothers are vulnerable to many problems that harm both their well-being and that of their children. Designfor Greatness Foundation seeks to provide the aid they need. We locate key areas of concern where a distressing number of women are left to fend for their families alone. Through giving and advocacy, we aim to elevate their quality of life and help them secure a healthy and happy life for their household. We also raise awareness on their situation to inspire direct action from public and private sectors of society.
